Green Bay Packaging Inc. is a privately owned, diversified packaging and paper manufacturer. The Green Bay Shipping Container Division is an industry leading manufacturer of corrugated containers for food, paper, hardware, housewares, and furniture packing industries.
This position directs the daily operations of a production team operating on a rotating 3-shift schedule. Responsible for leading teams in the various processes of the production of corrugated containers in a safe, cost effective manner, and ensuring that product meets all customer and company standards.
Essential Functions: Assures that crew members work safely and follow all plant rules and policies. Will coach or discipline employees when necessary. Acts as a problem solver for production crews when needed. Works with all crews to strive for maximum efficiencies in machine production, set up times and run speeds. Monitors machine run efficiencies and addresses issues preventing goal attainment. Engages crews in activities to look for ways to streamline daily processes. Schedules shift rotations, vacations, and job assignments. Acts as the conduit for communication between employees and management. Works with production planning department to prioritize jobs, workflow and crew assignments. Coordinates material movement required for daily work assignments. Monitors the workflow and material levels within their assigned area and shifts emplyees to the areas of most need. Leads training efforts for crews in the area of safety, new hires, and promotions. Works with Maintenance Department staff to deliver predictable and reliable equipment performance. Balances safety, quality, productivity, cost, and moral to achieve positive results in all areas. Works to continuously improve in all areas. Monitors and maintains the housekeeping level within their assigned department. Other duties as assigned by Department Manager.
Position Qualifications: Solid written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize information from multiple sources and develop plans for continuous improvement. Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to drive change. Previous success in a supervisor role within a unionized production facility. Previous experience in a box plant, printing operation, converting operation or paper mill is preferred. Must be able to improve working conditions (safety, quality, productivity, cost) and increase subordinates skills and abilities. Strong communication skills for representing the needs of the employees and management to each party on a continuous basis. Prior experience leading people and physically working in a corrugated or other manufacturing setting desired.
EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 3-5 years of experience supervising in a unionized industrial environment desired.
