Structural Packaging/Display Designer

Our Kalamazoo Container Division which is located in Kalamazoo MI is a modern, fully equipped corrugated manufacturing facility that produces a wide range of innovative corrugated products from ordinary brown boxes to intricate die cut inner pack to high graphic packaging.
This position is responsible for creating new packaging and/or displays based on customer criteria using Artios CAD; spec out and/or redesign existing packaging. Perform ISTA and non-ISTA packaging testing on new and/or existing packaging to ensure product support. Sample new designs to ensure customer expectations are met. Provide 3D renderings for virtual mock-ups to provide customer proposed packaging ideas and perform pallet layouts and stacking strength analysis. Track board weights for SFI and provide support pertaining to sustainability inquiries. Administrative duties would include filling out design paperwork and electronic forms. This position may also perform maintenance and inventory control of die cut forms.
· Bachelor’s degree of higher (Degree in Packaging/Industrial design preferred) and/or 2 to 5 years’ experience as a structural designer. · In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office and its applications, CAD, Artios CAD, Adobe Illustrator, Cape Pack, and/or TOPPS and cutting table. · Knowledge of box plant machinery and tooling. · Experienced in operating sample cutting tables. · Good knowledge of corrugated industry, working POP knowledge is also desired. · Strong cognitive and math skills. · Demonstrated ability to think in 3D. Work predominantly in an office/testing lab environment, minimal time spent on production floor. Ability to lift 50# with our without assistance; sitting & standing, bending, kneeling; lifting, pushing & pulling of corrugate material and cutting dies. Be detail oriented. Please note: this is not a graphic designer position. It requires a structural engineering/packaging design background.
