Green Bay Packaging Coated Products Division Awarded Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership

GREEN BAY, WI – November 5, 2014 – The Coated Products Division of Green Bay Packaging received
the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership at the
association’s annual meeting held in Dana Point, CA.

This prestigious award distinguishes companies that
have consistently demonstrated a commitment to progressive environmental practices across a range of
areas including solid waste reduction, recycling, waste or energy recovery, the implementation of new ‘clean’
technology and/or processes, and the implementation of an education program. Green Bay Packaging Martin Olson and Steve Wilcox accept the 2014 Supplier Environmental Award from Calvin Frost of TLMI “The awards were created in order to recognize companies that are demonstrating leadership in this implementation of environmental awareness and best sustainability practices in the North American label and packaging industries,” says Calvin Frost, TLMI Environmental Chair Committee. “I want to congratulate Green Bay Packaging Coated Products Division for their high level of excellence in environmental stewardship. As brand owners and packaging buyers continue to enforce environmental transparency down the entire packaging supply chain, it is critical that industry converters and suppliers
gain recognition for their commitment, and the TLMI Environmental Awards and the association’s L.I.F.E. Certification program enable our members to do that very effectively.” The Coated Products Division created a Green Team over 10 years ago that has demonstrated measured change called a “Decade of Sustainability” Improvement. Byproduct going to the landfill has been reduced by 99%. The Green Team developed a coordinated effort “to define waste streams that could be recycled”, either traditionally or thermally. A 5S approach was used involving employees in every part of
their manufacturing and administrative operations. Additionally, Coated Products installed a centrifuge to
treat and reduce process waste water by 50%. Along with this was a major project to reduce energy
consumption. All activities started in the primary manufacturing facility and now extend to their other
divisions. Coated Products Division also achieved TLMI L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment) Certification.
L.I.F.E. is the only certification program tailored to the narrow web label and packaging industry.
