MPS and Green Bay Packaging open Demo & Applications Center

MPS Systems North America and Green Bay Packaging Coated Products Operations open a joint Demo & Applications Technology Center in Green Bay Wisconsin. The Technology Center is a separate building on the Green Bay Packaging campus and opens September 1 of this year. MPS is displaying a 10 color 17 inch EF multi-substrate flexo press that is equipped with UV/LED, hot air dryers and a large number of different converting options.

“We are very excited to open a state-of-the-art North American Demo & Applications Technology Center together with Green Bay Packaging,” according to Kees Nijenhuis, Vice President of MPS Systems North America. “In our new Technology Center we are going to show our potential customers something special, that is why we have decided to install a 10 color 17 inch wide EF press with all the bells and whistles. The EF is our automated multi substrate press and future proof press platform. In our Technology Center we are going to show our potential customers what is possible when we push the limits when it comes to productivity, flexo print quality and flexible converting.”

The new Demo & Applications Technology Center is part of the local organization of MPS in North America, which includes local press manufacturing, technical consultancy, sales and marketing. Most importantly, MPS Systems North America has established local service offerings that include spare parts programs and US-based technical assistance.

Green Bay Packaging is looking forward to this development on its campus. “Having a state-of-the-art flexographic press available for print testing will be a tremendous addition to our product development efforts,” states Marty Olson, Green Bay Packaging Senior Vice President.  “In addition, offering visiting customers the opportunity to see our material convert will enhance tours of our facilities.”

Direct Thermal Upgrade

Our Economy Top Coated Direct Thermal Paper (024DT) has been modified for enhanced imaging. It will now be available under a new product code, 025DT.

In addition to an improved top coating, the base paper on this grade has changed. It is now lighter, which means savings in shipping costs for you.

A data sheet with a comparison between the two versions is available here.

As with 024DT, 025DT is resistant to water and oils, so it is the perfect choice for weigh scale labels. It is also heat resistant, which makes it suitable for shipping and logistics applications.

The transition to 025DT will take place toward the end of June. If you would like samples, please contact your sales representative, or email us.

Whether you want to create awareness for your awesome printing skills, or launch a specific product or technology, there are dozens of designs you can choose from in a range of markets.

We have labels for craft beer, wine, spirits, personal care, food, and many more products.  Use them as is, or personalize them with your company or product information.  A couple of customized examples are shown to give you some inspiration.

We list suggestions for the materials to use, or you can make the label your own with a different facer choice.

This is all free to use.  All we ask is that you print these designs only on Green Bay Packaging stock.

To get started you simply need access to our Customer Portal.  Don’t have an account?  You can ask your Sales or Customer Service Representative to get you set up, or email us at greenbaynews@gbpcoated.com

And keep checking in.  We regularly load new designs.

Distinguished or Daring?

Let Your Label Speak for Itself.

What does your customer’s wine or beer label want to say? I’m elegant? Dangerous? Sophisticated? Fresh?

With our new Black Vellum (BKVLM) and Bright White Felt (70BWF) papers the label can speak loud and clear.

Black Vellum is a 60# paper that is black throughout – so no white edge to spoil the look. The Bright White Felt is 70# with an interesting texture that adds an extra sensory experience to the label.

Both are available paired with an ice bucket adhesive (747) on our trimless TIP program.

To see the mystery or feel the richness of these grades, contact us for samples.

A cost-effective alternative to film, 054WS is a perfect choice for chilled beverages, including beer, white wine, sparkling wine, and vodka. It’s also a great option for labeling refrigerated foods such as cheese, meat, produce, and pre-packaged meals.

054WS is available on trimless (TIP) with our 747 ice bucket adhesive and with both 40# kraft and 1.2 mil polyester liners.

Bring on the Cold!

Polar White Wet Strength Paper Can Handle It

Polar White (PLRWS) is designed to keep chilled beverage labels looking good for the life of the party.
Its unique back side barrier maintains face stock opacity in ice bucket and refrigerated conditions, and it costs less than most weld products with a poly backing.

Polar White is made from 100% post-consumer waste. Without that film backing, it’s even more environmentally friendly, using 40% less plastic, giving it extra eco-friendly credibility.

Making it even more attractive, the unique barrier backing minimizes label wrinkling and edge lift when the label is wet. Polar White prints, embosses, and foil stamps beautifully so you can create a memorable label that will stay looking wonderful until the wine (or beer) is gone.

Polar White Wet Strength Barrier Paper is available on TIP with our ice bucket adhesive (747) and kraft and polyester liners.

To receive samples of Polar White, send us an email. For more information check out gbp.com/coated/polar.

FDA Announces New Nutrition Label Format

The FDA has announced an official update of the Nutrition Facts label for food and beverages sold in the US. Virtually all food and beverage packaging will need to adjust their current labels as a result of this rule. This could mean new business for you or, at the very least, new graphics.

Food and beverage manufacturers with sales over $10 million annually will be required to comply with the new label requirements by July 26, 2018. Those with sales less than $10 million annually will have an additional year to comply. You can read the final requirements here.

Election Season is Here!

It’s election season, which means a surge in the number of car bumpers decorated with vinyl political campaign stickers.

Green Bay Packaging’s white Window-Litetm film (036WG) is a smarter alternative to vinyl. Its durable, cost effective, and when combined with our 347 adhesive, will remove when the campaign ends.

A 3.6 mil top-coated BOPP, 036WG eliminates the problems with vinyl – difficult die cutting, sensitivity to temperature, shrinkage, and environmental concerns. 036WG is UV-resistant and is top-coated for UV screen, UV flexo, and water-based inks.

036WG is available on T.I.P. in as little as a 2,500′ roll, with 347 adhesive and a 3.2 mil white kraft liner, 50SC.

Send us an email to request a sample.

Thinner Facer = Savings

026TT Combines Savings with an Improved Product.

Green Bay Packaging’s thin film 026TT, can reduce costs and provide better performance while benefitting your customers.

026TT, a 2.6 mil thermal transfer white Label-Lyte, is a thinner version of 030TT, our 3.0 mil Label-Lyte film. Your customer benefits because thinner material results in more labels per roll, and fewer roll changes during application. Because 026TT is thinner, it’s less expensive than 030TT, and costs less to ship, too. 026TT also has an improved top coating for better print performance.

026TT is available on T.I.P. with 747, a tackified permanent adhesive and 2.5 mil kraft liner, 40SC.

Thinner Facer + Thinner Liner = Savings

Green Bay Packaging has two new thinner products that can reduce costs for you, and benefit your customers.

026TT, a 2.6 mil Thermal Transfer White Label-Lyte™,  is a thinner version of 030TT, our 3.0 mil Label-Lyte film. Thinner material results in more labels per roll for your customer and fewer roll changes during application. Because 026TT is thinner, it’s less expensive than 030TT, too.

17GL, a 1.7 mil White Glassine Liner, is a less expensive and thinner alternative to our 2.5 mil kraft liner, 40SC. 17GL is lighter than 40SC (28# vs. 41#). Its lighter weight translates into lower shipping cost. 17GL performs similarly to 40SC and can be used as a liner on most paper facers.

026TT is available on T.I.P. with 747, a tackified permanent adhesive and 2.5 mil kraft liner, 40SC.

17GL is on T.I.P. with VALUT, a value thermal transfer paper facer and 758M, a general purpose permanent adhesive. It is also on T.I.P. with 025NT, a non-top coated direct thermal paper with 720, an all-temperature adhesive.
